How to Create an Adorable and Affordable Safari Nursery

Hello friends! Here we are again on Friday, did this week feel like it went by super quick to anyone else? I know Monday was a holiday but wow did it fly by! I hope everyone enjoyed their memorial day weekend though!

We have finally hit the tile stage in our bathroom remodel (only took us about 6 months to get here lol) and I couldn’t be more excited! This means I am about one week away from not having to walk down the stairs multiple times at night to pee as baby boy decides to use my bladder as a couch lol. Not to mention, our house is super old, like late 1800’s old, and going downstairs in the pitch black is kind of terrifying with all the creepy noises that old houses make.

With that being said, as we wrap up our bathroom project we are starting to think about our next project… THE NURSERY!! Yay! After thinking it over quite a bit we decided to go with a safari theme. I started to put together a little look book for myself and thought it might be kind of fun to share it with all of you and anyone out there who is in the same boat as us, and is looking for some nursery inspiration!

Since our nursery is currently filled with all of our bathroom items and the guest room belongings, we don’t have much room to store items so I have held off (mostly) from buying all of the furniture and decor until we can clear the room out. I actually ended up buying a crib on Monday because I figured I should take advantage of the holiday sales! But that won’t be here for another week or so.

I just hit 19 weeks this week so we definitely aren’t in any rush but I would rather get it done sooner than later so that we aren’t scrambling in the end! Plus, it doesn’t hurt to dream a little and with decorating being one of my favorite things to do I am very eager to get started.

Safari Nursery

I just want to start by saying that if you are struggling to get started on decorating a room or choosing a theme, it always helps me to start by picking the accent pieces to decorate around. Whether that be large pieces of furniture or a wall, it is always a great starting point! When I started thinking about decorating the nursery I decided to focus on the accent wall or walls first.

We had been going back and forth between a few different themes and I was kind of waiting for something to pop out at me that would help point me in the right direction and that’s when I found this wallpaper made by Loomwell! Right when I saw it I instantly made up my mind and that doesn’t usually happen for me, you can ask my husband lol. Everyone knows by now that I love neutral colors and the colors and simplicity of this wallpaper just makes the perfect combination. I have not decided exactly how I am going to use it yet but that will come later on.

Once I had this picked out I was able to start thinking about the colors that I wanted to use for the furniture, decor, etc. When you think of safari normally you think of a specific color scheme, but with nurseries it seems like the options are endless! I decided to go with more of the natural colors because that is just my style and I am going to add pops of green in here and there!

I went through some of my favorite places to shop for decor (Target, Walmart, Amazon, Wayfair, etc.) and put together a BUNCH of different options for the main items needed in a nursery. All of the items are super affordable and and of course adorable!

Cribs

The amount of cribs I included below is probably overkill but there are sooo many options, holy cow. I could have included bout 100 more but I had to really limit myself! This crib here is the one I ended up going with, along with this crib mattress! Both had amazing reviews and I loved the wood detailing on the back of the crib. I was shocked at how inexpensive cribs are, I was expecting for it to be the most expensive item we were going to have to purchase and it seems like it’s going to be one of the cheaper items!

I stuck to mostly white or wood colored cribs but most of the options below come in quite a few different options!

Dressers & Changing tables

If you want to talk expensive, let’s talk dressers. They always seem to be one of the more expensive furniture pieces. I plan to DIY a dresser that we have had sitting in our garage for a while to try to avoid spending a ridiculous amount of money, so keep your eye out for that post coming soon! The dresser we have is enormous which will make up for the amount of closet space the room lacks and it will also double for a changing table so we won’t have to have a whole separate piece for that. I included a few changing table options as well as the changing table holder that can be put on the top of any current dresser you may have!

Rockers & Other Furniture

Rockers, Gliders or whichever chair you end up going with can be another spendy item. I fell in love with the 2 different rockers from Pottery Barn Kids and I even went to go pull the plug on one because it was half off but they wanted like a $150 just to ship it and I just could not get myself to pay that on top of the already high price tag. So I will be looking for a cheaper alternative! The chairs, side tables or even the pouf/foot rest is a great way to add in some pops of color too!

Rugs

I was in rug heaven when I was searching for my nursery rug! I love the rugs that are made with  natural materials and the hand woven ones. Wayfair always has the best selections for rugs too! These are the three that I am leaning towards (onetwothree), I think they would all look so good with the wallpaper I picked out and it would add so much texture to the room!

Bedding & Curtains

Bedding, curtains, etc. are all very inexpensive ways to add in some fun details to a room! You can throw in some animal prints here or even just stick to a solid color that could really pop, such as the sage green bedding below! I personally love the idea of using some natural wood or bamboo shades with some sheer white curtain to keep the room feeling super bright, and they tie into the safari feel really well! My husband is not a fan of them but I was the one put in charge of decor so we will see 😉

Wall Decor

I found so many cute safari prints, along with a lot of customized name pieces from Etsy! Come to find out, Etsy is a huge hot spot when it comes to nursery decor. If your walls are feeling bare you can also try adding in some floating wood shelves or some wall decal stickers if you want to skip the wallpaper route!

Storage & Organization

You know I am about to get wild with some wicker up in this nursery! I love a good wicker basket and I have never been more prepared when it comes to cute storage lol. My SIL actually bought me the giraffe basket below and I am OBSESSED with it. I have always been a giraffe lover and it is going to match the room perfectly! There’s also no possible way to get around buying that cute elephant hamper, I mean just look at it!

Miscellaneous Decor

There will most definitely be some sort of fiddle leaf tree in my nursery, fake of course because this girl could kill a plant just by glancing at it lol. I wish I was joking because a real one would be SO much better. Maybe I will give it another shot, it has to work at some point right?! Also, aren’t those rockers so dang cute??? They are on the more expensive side but they double as decor and entertainment so it may be worth it haha.

I hope I was able to spark some creativity if you are in the process of tackling a nursery. I am so ready to decorate mine and if it weren’t for our bathroom it would probably already be done.

Have a great weekend!!

Xoxo, Steph
