Simple Fall Porch Decor

Happy Thursday! I can’t believe it’s already October, can you?! That’s so crazy to me. I’ve been on a bit of a Fall streak on the blog here lately because there has been a lot of last minute decorating going on at our house. So, I apologize that I am a little behind the ball here! I recently decorated our front porch for fall, and I couldn’t not share that with you all because I love how it turned out!

I struggle a little when it comes to decorating my porch because, as you can see below in the pictures, there isn’t much room to work with! Even though it is small, I believe that it is an area that must be decorated. A nicely decorated porch will instantly add to your homes curb appeal! Since the front porch is one of the first things people notice when they walk up to your house, you want it to leave a good impression on your visitors.

Just a little FYI, The color scheme that I went with this year is not like me at all. If you know me, you know that I like to stick to my neutrals, especially when it comes to home decor. I will usually add a pop of color where I see fit but I have NEVER used this much. But I was feeling a little bold (also not willing to pay $10 a pop for those white pumpkins that I was eye balling). Better luck next year on the white pumpkins. But, the wreath that I had from last year and the cute hello pumpkin door mat I found on sale at Christmas Tree Shops were both orange, so I went with it!

When it comes to decorating outdoors for fall, there are a few essential items that come to my mind.

  1. Pumpkins, duh. (Is there such thing as too many pumpkins? Asking for a friend..)
  2. Mums, lots of mums.
  3. Lanterns
  4. A quality door mat
  5. Wooden crates
  6. Buffalo check pattern (I bet you saw that one coming lol)

I love decorating with lanterns for two reasons. One, they add ambiance to any area that you put them. Two, you can easily customize them! I love filling them with seasonal items. Here I chose to use some of the cinnamon scented pine cones that I had leftover from my Fall Table Centerpiece from last week, but you could even do small pumpkins, acorns or leaves!

I added in two different pillows to see which one I liked the most, gotta keep my options open! Which one stands out the most to you? I know which one I would pick but I’m curious to see what everyone thinks. The pillow above is the one I mentioned in my Amazon Farmhouse Fall Decor post. I immediately purchased it after I found it and it did not disappoint!

And how cute is that Black & White checkered seat cushion?! I paid a whopping $5 for that bad boy at Walmart, what a steal! I saw it in my peripherals when I was walking by and didn’t even think twice before throwing it in my cart.

Is it just me or is buffalo check pattern the perfect pattern for fall?! I think it’s a great pattern for any season, but I especially love it for Fall and Winter! The buffalo check rug that I layered my hello pumpkin door mat with was also an item I included in my Amazon Farmhouse Fall Decor post. I’ve had it for a while and absolutely love how seamlessly it fits with everything you pair it with.

I randomly walked into Bed Bath and Beyond not too long ago and the first thing that caught my eye was the wooden pumpkin patch crate. I instantly fell in love and had to have it! But it wasn’t quite enough on its own and it was a little small. So I found a large wooden crate at Joann’s and I stained it with the leftover stain that I used on my DIY Blanket Ladder. Then, I just added some faux leaves and a pumpkin!

Oh and I can’t forget my little helper, Koda. He may not have made decorating easy (dropping a tennis ball in front of me every 5 seconds) but he sure did make it fun. I’d say he is hands down the best part of the porch, but I may be a little biased!

Let’s just talk about the Target dollar section really quick. How does one of the most inexpensive areas of Target continue to take all of my money?! That’s what I want to know. I found these adorable Burlap Sack’s at Target in the dollar section for $5! I couldn’t pass them up because I knew I could find a place for them on our porch. Just stuff them with anything you can find (a jacket, pillow insert, hay, apples or pumpkins if you desire, etc.) and you have yourself a perfect fall decor piece!

I went ahead and tagged all of the items below that I was able to find links for, unfortunately there were quite a few that I couldn’t find or stores that don’t have online shopping. So, If I didn’t mention them at all feel free to comment and I will gladly give you the details!

On another note, If any of my neighbors saw me in action decorating my porch they probably thought I was insane. I rearranged everything so many times, as you can see in some of the pictures, and I probably looked like a crazy person.

Well, that’s all for this week! I hope I was able to give you some fall porch decor inspiration to help you spruce yours up a bit, or to help you figure out how to use your limited porch space to its fullest potential! Make sure to pin this for some fall inspiration and comment below and let me know your thoughts! If you take anything out of this post, just remember that you can never have too many pumpkins!! 😉 Talk to you all soon!

Xoxo, Steph
