How we turned our master bedroom from dated to warm and welcoming

Our master bedroom was in dire need of a refresh, just take a look for yourself at the before shots below (yikes!). But with a fresh coat of paint and some new decor + furniture, I was able to take our room from dated to warm + welcoming!

You really don’t realize how much a space can affect your mood until you take the time to make some changes, but wow did we need this! Walking into our room before used to make me feel so lethargic. It was one of the only rooms in our house that I hadn’t put my touch on yet in the 5 years that we have lived here and I really don’t know why I waited so long. Walking into our room now instantly puts a smile on my face. It just feels so full of life and is exactly what I want to wake up to every morning!

Let me know what you think! Our room has been through a few refresh stages, starting with the purchase of our bedroom set. But I was unable to find those pictures so y’all get the see the OG before pictures today which are 10x worse haha. I can’t complain though because it was all hand me down furniture that we didn’t have to pay for and it did it’s job until we were able to invest in some of our own. The dresser is actually the one I DIYed and used in Jax’s nursery, so crazy!

Here they are:

Now that you suffered through those, here is what we have all been waiting for….

Welcome to our newly refreshed modern farmhouse master bedroom!

I have a love hate relationship with painting and just the whole process, but there has NEVER been a time where I regretted the amount of time I have spent painting a space in our home. Anytime anyone asks me what they need to do to help refresh a space, paint is ALWAYS my number one go to! Picking colors can be challenging though and it is something that I tend to struggle with. I’m definitely no expert and there are so many factors that go into picking the perfect color (lighting, furniture, etc.). That is where paint samples come into play and they will become your best friend because colors always end up so much different than the paint sample color strips you bring home! Below are the colors I used for our refreshed room! I usually decorate in a similar color pattern so I always have my go to paints that I know will look great no matter what!

Wall color: Benjamin Moore Classic Gray
Trim color: Benjamin Moore Simply White

I always say when I get a new rug that it is my new favorite that I have ever had, but I truly don’t know if I will ever be able to beat this rug. I ordered it in the 7’6″x9’6″ and I am in love with everything about it! It stays in place so well for not having a rug pad underneath it! The mix of gray and beige in it tie into the wall color so well + it makes the darker furniture really pop. I threw in the knit accent pillows (which are SO comfortable btw) and the throw blanket to match it as well!

These side tables were a little DIY project of mine this past summer. I found them at TJ Maxx for like $30 each but each of them were different colors and neither were ones that matched. The size/style was exactly what I was looking for though! Nothing a little matte black spray paint can’t fix, tada! If you are looking for something similar, this side table is around the same size and style (and it is already black, score!). The only difference is the drawer which I am kind of jealous of lol! I miss having a drawer but that is part of the reason I added the woven baskets below, a little extra storage + more cute details + textures to add to the room.

These wall sconces were an Amazon find and they are so good! You can also use puck lights inside of them instead of taking the time + spending the money to hard wire them! I bought some for ours (linked above) that came with 2 remotes so that you can turn them on and off! I still haven’t taken the time to actually put them in though. Still on my very long to do list lol.

If you are on the lookout for decorative objects such as the black knot looking thingy or the wooden boxes and are baffled at how expensive they can be, I definitely recommend checking out any of the tjx stores. Their prices are much better and they have a great selection usually. Target is a great place to look too!

I saw this set of vases and fell in love with them. They are so pretty + timeless! If you are ever unsure of how to fill a space, you can never go wrong with a stack of some neutral colored coffee table books!

If you are new here, these blinds are my absolute favorite! I used them in my sons nursery as well if you want to see them in a different style room! I also just bought them for baby girls nursery and will be installing them soon, stay tuned! I love them paired with the neutral curtains and the black curtain rod!

Xoxo, Steph
